Hampton University to Host VHSL Group 5A State Boys and Girls  December 30, 2021 – 10:21 am

HAMPTON, Va. — Hampton University’s Convocation Center will play host to the 2017 Virginia High School League (VHSL) Group 5A State Boys and Girls Basketball Quarter-Final and Semi-Final games beginning March 2 thru March 4.

“We are honored and proud to host the upcoming Virginia Group 5A State quarter-final and semi-final games, ” said Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey. “Our staff, in conjunction with the Virginia High School League officials, will do our best to ensure all fans enjoy their visit to the Convocation Center for these exciting contests.”

Gates will open to the general public at 1:30 p.m. All game tickets cost $10, children 6 and under will be admitted free with a parent. Parking Lots 10 and 11 will be used for general public parking at a cost of $5.

“The VHSL is very excited about Hampton University hosting our 5A basketball quarter-finals and semi-finals, ” said Shawn Knight, VHSL assistant director for athletics. “The Hampton University Convocation Center provides an excellent venue for what we expect will be a great experience for our young people as they continue their pursuit of a championship.”

This game will bring some of the top teams and players from the Commonwealth to our historic "Home by the Sea.”

About the HU Convocation Center
Since opening in 1993, the Hampton University Convocation Center in Hampton, Va. has hosted concerts, basketball games and conventions and has made an impact on both student life and the Hampton Roads community. The Convocation Center has a capacity of 8, 200 for concerts and conventions and 7, 200 for basketball.

HU Convocation Center features include a removable Final Four basketball floor; two meeting rooms with wall-to-wall carpet, an intercom system and capabilities for theater-style seating or conference tables and chairs; two dressing rooms, each complete with wall-to-wall carpet, full-length vanity mirrors, an intercom system and a restroom with shower; a press room with phones jacks; four locker rooms complete with prostyle lockers, an intercom system and restroom with showers; a loading dock and mechanical loading ramp; a state-of-the-art sound system with a 32 channel Yamaha sound board; and stagehands and riggers provided by local I.A.T.S.E. Union 264. The building has 2, 000 parking spaces and two concession stands.
