York School Board seeks interim member  June 4, 2017 – 09:11 am
York County and Poquoson, Virginia, headline news and community

The York County School Board is seeking applicants for a School Board seat that will be vacated in June.

Cindy Kirschke, representative of District 2, previously planned to resign in November, before her family moved to Northern Virginia. However, she had to change her plans and will resign June 19.

Kirschke said at the May 22 board meeting that her house sold faster than expected and her family will relocate mid-June. The board recognized Kirschke's service and presented tokens of appreciation at the meeting. Kirschke was first elected to represent the county's second district in 2011 and is serving her second term, which ends in January 2020.

The vacant seat will be filled by an appointed person for an interim period until a special election is held on Election Day, Nov. 7, according to a news release.

Applicants for the appointment must live in District 2, which includes the Coventry and Kiln Creek precincts.

Those interested in the interim School Board appointment should submit a letter of interest and a resume to the board. Letters and resumes should list the applicant's address, phone number and email and will be accepted until June 14 at 5 p.m.
