Under the leadership of newly appointed superintendent, L. Gregory Drescher, Warren County Public Schools (WCPS) continues to strive for excellence. WCPS operates eight schools: 2 high schools, 1 middle school, and 5 elementary schools. In October of 2015, ground was broken for the new Warren County Middle School. The new Warren County Middle and Skyline Middle Schools will each open in the fall of 2017 with approximately 600 students in grades 6 through 8.

Class of 2015: Profile

  • Graduation rate 95.3% (per Commonwealth of Virginia ratings);
  • Over 52% earned Advanced Diplomas;
  • 44% of graduating class was enrolled in Advanced Placement classes;
  • 72% of graduates planned to enroll in two- and four-year colleges;
  • 85% of graduates intended to participate in continuing education, including military;
  • 41% of graduates completed a career and technical education program.

Student Opportunities:

  • 176 credit courses are offered in grades 8-12;
  • 56 Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses are offered, of which 25 lead to industry certifications;
  • Mountain Vista Governor’s School for Math, Science and Technology for gifted students in a research-based, technology-enhanced, integrated program in Mathematics, Science, and the Humanities that allows students to earn approximately 30 hours of college credit each year through dual enrollment.
  • Students are encouraged to take Advanced Placement examinations;
  • 235 WCPS students took 410 AP Tests in 2015
  • WCPS increased the number of students taking the SAT from 178 to 185, a 3% increase
  • Dual enrollment at Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) allows high school students to enroll in on site classes in Language and Composition, Literature and Composition, US History, Environmental Science, photography, calculus, statistics, Teachers for Tomorrow, carpentry, computer systems technology, information technology networking and electricity. Students simultaneously earn high school and college credits.

Award-Winning School System:

  • Skyline High School Students SAT scores in Verbal/Critical Reading and Writing were higher than the National Average in 2015
  • Warren County High School Band was named a Virginia Honor Band for its Superior Rating in both marching and concert seasons
  • Warren County Middle School participates in the renowned AMCS American Mathematics Contest for middle school students a Virginia Millitary Institute
  • in 2014, Warren County High School was ranked by U.S. News and World Report 37th out of 96 schools ranked in Virginia and 1974th out of 21, 000 schools ranked in the Nation.

Technology:

Warren County is well invested in integrating state-of-the-art technology in its schools.

  • The backbone of the WCPS network is gigabit Ethernet, and the bandwidth of the wide area network allows schools to access voice, video and data;
  • Each school is equipped with wireless access
  • WCPS uses Google’s educational suite of productivity tools to increase student and teacher collaboration in the classroom.
  • All classrooms at WCPS are equipped with interactive Smartboards and projectors. Each high school has a distance learning classroom.
  • 87 educators in WCPS have completed the National Education Technology Standards for Teachers, and 33 are currently working toward certification.
  • 17 faculty members are currently Google Certified and many more trainings are sponsored for this year.
